Dan Hurley: A Jersey Guy Making Waves in College Basketball

A Local Legend

Dan Hurley, born January 16, 1973, is an American college basketball coach who is currently making waves in the world of college basketball. He is the head coach of the UConn Huskies men's team at the University.

From Humble Beginnings

Hurley's journey to success began in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he was first introduced to basketball by his father, Bob Hurley Sr., a legendary high school basketball coach. Hurley grew up idolizing local basketball stars like David Rivers, Charles Mandy Johnson, and Felix Rivera.

A Rising Star

Hurley's passion for basketball led him to pursue coaching. After graduating from St. Benedict's Preparatory School, he went on to play for Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. His coaching career began in 2001 as an assistant coach at Wagner, and he quickly rose through the ranks.

Success at UConn

In 2018, Hurley was hired as the head coach of the UConn Huskies men's basketball program. Despite taking over a team that had struggled in recent years, he has led the Huskies to success. In his six seasons at the helm, he has led the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2023.

A Jersey Guy Through and Through

Despite his success on the court, Hurley remains a Jersey guy at heart. He met his wife, Andrea, at a local bar in New Jersey, and the couple now resides in West Hartford, Connecticut with their four children. Hurley is also a devout Catholic and is known for his strong family values.

The Future Is Bright

With Hurley at the helm, the future looks bright for the UConn Huskies men's basketball program. He has proven to be a talented coach who can develop young players and build a winning culture. As the program continues to grow under his leadership, Hurley is poised to make even more history at the University of Connecticut.
